Sherson’s culinary interest stemmed from an early age. As the oldest among his siblings, Sherson started helping out at his mother’s café in Kuala Lumpur when he was just 11-years-old, where he learned how to peel garlic and onions. By 12, Sherson began serving customers and learning how to cook.
Sherson eventually embarked on his own culinary career, enrolling in Taylor’s College for a six-month hotel industry apprenticeship course, and spending 3 months training at JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur. He then returned to help out at his family business, Paradise Corner, which he eventually took over management and ownership. After three years of successful patronage and growth, Sherson sold the restaurant and moved to Malacca with his family to manage their resort, El Sanctuary. Along with his mother, Sherson continued to cook and serve food to guests staying in their resort.
It was during the service of a meal at El Sanctuary that a consultant for a show scouted Sherson and asked if he would like to host 5 Rencah 5 Rasa. Sherson has since become a popular culinary figure in Malaysia’s food scene, and has served as a guest judge in reality program Dapur Selebrity. The talented chef is also the host of Asian Food Channel’s original programs, The Amazing Food Challenge: Fun in the Philippines and Family Kitchen with Sherson, where he cooks in the comfort of his own kitchen alongside his mother, with special appearances from his family!
In his spare time, Sherson enjoys playing music, traveling around the world and diving.
Sherson is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mother of four and a fantastic cook, Ann is a big influence when it comes to Sherson’s love and passion for cooking. In 1997, Ann opened a small café along Old Klang Road to support her family’s expenses. This marked the start of Sherson’s involvement in the culinary world, as he learned to prepare food and serve guests in the café at the age of just 11-years-old. The humble café, which started out without a kitchen, eventually grew to become very popular among locals due to its unique menu that comprised of Malay, Chinese and Indian flavors. Soon after, the restaurant became a full-fledged chain with multiple restaurants across Kajang and Ampang. Today, Ann is the patriarch of El Sanctuary, a resort she manages with her family in Malacca.
Besides cooking, Ann also loves to sing and dance. She used to participate in Chinese operas with her husband at an old folks’ home they volunteered at. Another activity that Ann also enjoys very much is travelling.
Ann is currently based in Malaysia.
